Lizzie Stricklin is a junior at the George Washington University in Washington, DC, where she’s majoring in Journalism & Mass Communications and minoring in Sustainability. Originally from suburban Philadelphia, Lizzie is most interested in the environment, the arts, and social justice. At GW, Lizzie is on the club fencing team and plays the oboe in the concert band.
While in Durban, Lizzie learned about the history and politics of South Africa both from her classes and conversations with her homestay family. Her favorite experiences in Durban included hiking in the Krantzkloof and playing with newborn puppies.

Ainsley Ash is a junior at the University of Mississippi where she studies Public Policy Leadership. As a native Mississippian, she takes pride in learning the history of her state and the wide array of activists and creators that it has produced. While in South Africa, she has loved becoming more acquainted with the country’s own unique approaches to change.

Renny Simone is an undergraduate student at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Pursuing a degree in culture and politics, he hopes he never has to choose between his interests in jazz and housing justice – for example. Through his personal writing, he tries to point out the close connections between art, literature, and political change. Reporting South Africa is his attempt at journalism.

Skylar Thoma is in the class of 2021 at Swarthmore College near Philadelphia, PA. He is studying Education and Politics with an additional minor in Computer Science. Skylar is deeply invested in issues of criminal justice, educational equity, and political theory. He is also a big fan of science fiction and fantasy and trains martial arts. Reporting SIT is his first foray into journalism; so far he most enjoys writing profile pieces.
